Hear local community member Jim McKinney discuss his recent contract deployment to Afghanistan.  He will provide his personal take on important questions, and the relevance to our community:

Is the US/NATO/Afghan government making progress in the war?

What are the challenges and future for Afghanistan?

How does it relate to America?

What does it mean to Whatcom County?

Jim recently returned from a contract assignment in Afghanistan where he coordinated Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance operations for US Special Operations Forces and Allied “Train and Assist” partners.
Jim McKinney is a retired US Army Foreign Area Officer with extensive service in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.  He has served as a Senior Defense Official, Defense Attaché and Security Assistance Officer for US Embassies, and as a leader, advisor and analyst in numerous global assignments.  He provided extensive guidance and assistance to senior leaders in developing nations. 
Jim is the owner of Apple Mountain LLC, a small strategy and development consulting firm.  He is an Independent Trustee for Saturna Capital, and a volunteer for numerous local non-profit community youth organizations. He has a Bachelor’s in Government from California State University, Sacramento, and Master’s in International Studies from the University of Washington.
